Cell cycle: copy first, divide next
Begin at the centre. Explore a branch, explain its connection, then test your recall. Tap any branch heading to fold or expand it.
In recall mode, focus or tap a branch to reveal its explanation. Numbered branches follow a simplified process; read them in order.
Cell cycle: copy first, divide next
01 · G₁ phase
Cell growth and normal metabolic activity.
02 · S phase
DNA is replicated. DNA content doubles; chromosome number does not simply double.
03 · G₂ phase
Further growth and preparation for division.
04 · M phase
Nuclear division and usually cytokinesis produce daughter cells.
Connect the branches
Interphase consists of G₁, S and G₂. It is an active interval, not a resting phase.
Avoid the exam trap
DNA replication belongs to S phase, not prophase.
Test yourself: Does the chromosome count double during S phase?
No. Each chromosome acquires two sister chromatids, while the chromosome count by centromeres stays the same.
A concise revision aid with simplified connections. It supports the full chapter and primary references; it does not replace them.
