Office Applications — lesson overview
Document tools
Word-processing software supports text structure, styles, tables and page layout; manual spacing is not a robust substitute for document structure.
Styles provide consistent formatting and can support navigation and accessibility. A heading is more than text that merely looks bold.
Page breaks, margins and sections control layout through different mechanisms; choose the one matching the intended change.
Spreadsheets
A spreadsheet cell can contain a value or formula. Relative references change when copied; absolute references can fix a row, column or both.
For example, =A1*B1 uses relative references, while =$A$1*B1 fixes A1 in common spreadsheet notation.
Sorting only one column of a related table can disconnect records; select the relevant range and preserve row relationships.
Presentation and export
Presentation software organises content into slides with layouts and visual hierarchy; adding more text does not automatically improve explanation.
A PDF export can preserve appearance but is not always the same as an editable source document.
Always check formula results, exported page layout and accessibility rather than assuming a successful save proves the content is correct.
